Horizon › FAQ
Questions before you install.
Short answers. Install, mods and server pages go deeper.
Where do I download Horizon Minecraft on Rust?
Get the Horizon launcher (Minecraft Rust Edition) from the Download page or the Standard install panel on the home page — Windows setup.exe.
Do I need a paid Minecraft licence?
No hard licence gate. Horizon works with any Minecraft version you already have on this PC — it does not insist on a purchased copy check.
Is Horizon official?
No. It is unofficial. It is not approved by or associated with Mojang or Microsoft.
Is Horizon the same as Minecraft Rust Edition?
Players use that name because Horizon rewrites Java Edition in the Rust language. It is not a Mojang edition.
Do Fabric, Forge or NeoForge mods work?
Java JAR mods do not run. Horizon has its own mods. The launcher can carry over data-and-asset content from some Java mods, not the Java code.
Can I join public servers?
Yes — online-mode servers and LAN. Realms do not work yet.
Which systems are supported?
This site ships the Windows x64 setup. You need a GPU with Vulkan or DirectX 12.
Can I open old worlds?
Yes. Worlds from 1.8 to 26.2 upgrade as vanilla does. Copy the world into Horizon's saves folder and keep a backup.
Where are settings and logs?
In the Horizon game folder, not .minecraft. Linux ~/.local/share/horizon. macOS Application Support/horizon. Windows %APPDATA%\horizon.
Does it collect data?
Off by default, except an anonymous playing-now ping: a random session id, version, OS, and whether LAN is open. Anything else needs consent.
How often does it update?
Several times a day after a build starts and draws a world on the test machine. The launcher installs the Nightly.
